Invitation to the next JILID collaboration

by Frances Bell.
The aim of the JILID community is to build a global network of people who are interested in the research and collaboration on (inter)cultural aspects of learning and the design of educational media.
The idea is to do two collaborations and discussions per year on a specific topic with the help of web communication tools such as newsgrous, chats and documents on the web. Within this period should be two or more weeks of intensive communication about the subject. The results of our research can be published online on the "Journal for intercultural learning and information design".
The next and fifth collaboration is on childhood experiences and culture.
The core of each culture are values, beliefs (Hofstede) and behavior we learnt in our childhood. But childhood is more - being loved, being feeded, being protected, being consoled, laughing together, playing, crying and exploring the world.
Children need their home and their persons to whom they relate most closely. They grow up and learn many things unconscious and intuitive - and they adopt their culture without knowing it. And there are many things that have to do with childhood and with good emotion, such as special situations, celebrations, smells, tasts, stories that are told and others.
In our next collaboration we want to learn about the role and influence of childhood experiences on culture. What are important storys, tales, songs and media? What moments such as celebrations were impressive? What toys and games did we play with? What typical did we perceive with our senses such as smells, tasts, sounds, etc.)? What did we fear? How were our relationships to parents, sisters, brothers, and friends? How did our surrounding (e.g. country side, city, farm) influence us?

The collaboration takes place from December 4th 2006 till December 20th 2006.

If you do not already have an account at CABWEB, please create one, then contact Frank Thissen for the enrolment key, as JILID is a closed space. You can join JILID at www.cabweb.net/portal/course/view.php?id=36

More information at www.jilid.org

Regards.

Frank Thissen

www.frank-thissen.de
frank.thissen@gmx.de
